The Alberton Lions Club receives an award for excellence

The Alberton Lions Club continues to serve.

THE Alberton Lions Club (currently going towards their 50th year of operation) were very proud to be recognised by their peers and be awarded the prestigious annual Lions Club Excellence – Service Project of the Year award. The award was given to the club when the South African arm of Lions Clubs International recently gathered in Wilderness for the Multiple District Convention.

This award was in recognition of the club’s Hunger Project, which provides food supplies to the underprivileged throughout the year via a feeding scheme. The scheme provides for people from Johannesburg South to Alberton and Katlehong and supports various underprivileged daycare centres, destitute families in Alberton, and underprivileged township children.

In all, over the last year, Alberton Lions purchased, packed and delivered over four tons of food, providing over 40 000 meals to those less fortunate than ourselves.

The club is active in all of the Lions Club International Service pillars, engaging in projects covering hunger, the environment, diabetes, vision and pediatric cancer, as well as a further large number of general community projects.

If you would like to attend a project or a meeting to find out more about their activities, please contact Tammy du Plooy on 082 371 7053.
