From Alberton to Cyprus for Banyana

Banyana Banyana wrapped up their preparations for the Cyprus Cup at Alberton Football club

THE Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana wrapped up their preparations for the Cyprus Cup at Alberton Football Club on February 23.

The national women’s team is the current flagship of South African soccer, having recently been awarded the CAF trophy for the best women’s team in Africa in 2017.

The team left for Cyprus over the weekend to take part in the 11th edition of the Cyprus Women’s Cup, which runs from February 26 to March 7.

Head coach Desiree Ellis has the full complement of her squad following the arrival of goalkeeper Kaylin Swart and midfielder Zanele Nhlapho in Cyprus.

The team’s opening match will be against Slovakia on February 28 with kick-off at 1pm.

Next up will be Hungary on March 2 at 6pm, followed by their last group stage match against Korea DPR on March 5 at 1pm.
