Business league gets bowling

ALBERTON Bowling Club recently kicked off with their Business League tournament for the year.

The ninth instalment of the Business League got under way at 5pm on Wednesday, February 7, with 32 teams and a total of around 160 people taking part.

BUSY BUSY: Renée Venter and the winners’ trophy beside her.

“It certainly has grown and is going strong, which we’re very pleased about,” said René Venter, the driving force behind the league.

“We’re very grateful for all the support and sponsors who help us so much, like Perfect Delivery and all the other fantastic sponsors of whom there are many.”

Every team has someone from the bowls club (31 from Alberton and one from Brackenhurst) to assist them with rules and tips, as many of the players are new to the sport.

The winning team receives a floating trophy donated by Johan Venter when the league started, with cash prizes for the top three teams and a little something for everyone taking part.

GOOD TIMES: Players being social while they play.

“The aim of this is to revamp and polish the image of bowls, and to get young people involved and show them how much fun bowls can be and that it’s not just for old people,” said Venter.

GREAT TURNOUT: A few of the teams getting into the ‘roll’ of things.
