Proteas lose to India in second ODI

The Proteas received a cricket lesson in the second One Day International against India, at Centurion. The visitors, who convincingly won the first one day of six, by six wickets, at Kingsmead Cricket Ground, bowled out South Africa for 118 runs in their lowest One Day International total.

Aiden Makram, who was the standing captain, supported by JP Duminy, had no answer for the opposition spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, who bagged eight wickets between them.

Klopp fumes after draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, was left fuming after Tottenham Hotspur was handed a late penalty when Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have pushed down Erik Lamela. The 2017 African Player of the Year, Mohamed Salah, scored two goals, one in each half to give the reds a chance of going five points ahead of fifth place Tottenham Hotspur but it was  Tottenham Hotspur’s leading goal scorer who had the last say when he scored a penalty in the 95th minute of the game.

“If I say what I think right now I think I would pay the biggest fine in world football,” said Klopp.

“In a 93rd minute you should only whistle a penalty when you are 100 per cent sure,” he said after the match.

In other results, new signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexis Sanchez scored for their new teams when Arsenal beat struggling Everton 5-1 and Manchester United eased past Huddersfield Town 2-0 respectively, in this weekend’s fixtures. Aubameyang showed class when he scored his first premier league goal, whilst Alexis Sanchez scored the second goal when Manchester United took second bottom Huddersfield Town.

Sundowns extend lead at the top

2016 Caf champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, went into this weekend’s round of games aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table. The team from Pretoria did just that when they beat title contenders Cape Town City.  However, the lead was cut short to five points when Orlando Pirates eased passed Maritzburg United, two goals to nothing, on Saturday night. Kaizer Chiefs, who were held to a goalless draw by Masandawana in their last match, were also held to another draw, this time by defending champions Bidvest Wits.
