Fight of the year

"It was a very tough fight and he hurt me at times, but I waited for the right moment." - Donovan Minnie

EDEN Park waited in anticipation for six months for the big fight between a street champ and a ring champ.

Nicko Petersen, a street fighter, challenged Donovan Minnie in July last year and in August arrangements started for the explosion between the two with the main bout on December 16.

The fight turned out to be most entertaining with a packed community hall filled with screams of excitation. Both fighters gave their best in every round, but in the final round, round six, the street champ ran out of steam and his opponent applied his ring experience. The referee had to stop the fight.

“It was a very tough fight and he hurt me at times, but I waited for the right moment. I am happy the community enjoyed it and will encourage their sons and daughters to join boxing clubs,” said Minnie.
