MOHAMED Aqueel Ambaram, a learner at Nova Pioneer Ormonde, has once again qualified for the 2018 International Sport Karate and Kickboxing Association (ISKA) world championship.

The 14-year-old Grade Nine learner competed at the Destiny 2017 tournament, which was held at the Coetzenburg Sports Centre in Stellenbosch on October 7 and 8.

Destiny is the annual and official South African Sport Martial Arts championship. The official SA team selections take place at this championship for the annual National Martial Arts (NMA), ISKA World Championship, which is held in Orlando, Florida, in the USA.

In July 2017, Mohamed attended the world championship and returned home as a multiple world champion in his division in points sparring, clash sparring and high kicks. He has just re-qualified as SA champion in his division to attend the world championships, to be held in July 2018.

Mohamed entered and won the black-belt grand championship, which includes the SA champion in points sparring, SA champion in extreme martial arts kicks, SA champion in high kicks and SA champion in tag team points sparring.

Mohamed said he is humbled and ecstatic by the titles he has achieved at Destiny 2017.

He said he is looking forward to representing South Africa at the world championship next year and has begun training to bring the title home.

He thanked his mentor, James Chiyangwa, who teaches at Nova Pioneer, for his encouragement and for helping him to balance academics and his love for martial arts.

He also thanked the shihaans and senseis from the SKR Dojo in Lenasia for their coaching and for being a part of his journey to becoming SA champion once again.
