Alberton High’s mountain biking team finish on a high

The MTB team have decided to continue with races until the end of the year.

THE Alberton High School mountain biking team (MTB) has finished off the season for one of its tour series.

The team was placed 41st out of 80 schools in the Anatomic Gauteng Spur School Series comprising the Tour De Vaal, Tour De Bekker, Tour De Wonder and Tour De Bling.

The team members are grateful to their coach, Michael Winterbottom, who kept their fitness levels up and motivated them along the way. Training consisted of training camps and both indoor and outdoor training.

Alberton High School also thanked everyone involved for their support and transport which was provided when needed. They thanked parents and family for getting up early and shouting enthusiastically for all the MTB riders out on their laps – this kept them going when the going got tough.

“Thank you to generous sponsors, Meyer Benjamin of Suzuki Johannesburg South and Lance Selley of IPOP Bassonia for the beautifully made cycle shirts that boosted the team spirit and made it easier to identify the Alberton High individual riders out on the course,” said Emma Griffin-Coetzer, acting spokesperson for the team.

The MTB team have decided to continue racing until the end of the year. The next big MTB race will be the National Classic Cycle Race which will be held at Carnival City on October 28.
