The WildJoburg Trail Run a success

The popular Wild Jo'burg Trail Run is now clearly established as a permanent feature on the Johannesburg event calendar

THE fourth annual Wild Jo’burg Trail Run, held at Thaba Trails on Saturday, May 27 was a great success.

Runners who wanted to take part in this exciting event braved the cold weather for some exercise in the beautiful surroundings at Thaba Trails on Kliprivier Drive, Mulbarton.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Wendell Bole from Thaba Trails (with loudspeaker) explains the route to the participants in the 5km event.

The popular Wild Joburg Trail Run is now clearly established as a permanent feature on the Johannesburg event calendar, and can rightly claim to be one of the prime showcases of the natural beauty of the South. “Trail running is commonly recognised as the country’s (and the world’s) fastest growing adventure sport. Approximately 500 hardy trail runners stepped out on this cold morning to enjoy the spectacular and tough, but beautiful, trails prepared by Wendell Bole at Thaba Trails,” said Warren King, organiser of the event.

FITNESS MEETS NATURE: Participants get to enjoy nature while looking after their health.

The participants navigated 5, 10 and 20 kilometer routes of authentic and pristine single-track trails that took them climbing, scrambling and running through indigenous flora and some inspiring wildlife – all within a stone’s throw of Africa’s most vibrant city. Tired but thoroughly inspired, dirty and in some cases scratched and bleeding, the runners all proudly showed off their well-earned medals before returning home to enjoy lunch and the rest of the weekend.
