The Alberton Madalas Rugby Club goes all out

The Madalas have represented the Alberton Rugby Club at the Golden Oldies Festivals in Nelspruit in 2013, Pretoria in 2014, Cape Town in 2015 and Welkom in 2016, with pride.

THE Alberton Madalas Rugby Club is giving older men the opportunity to play the game they love.

The club was restarted in 2011 in order to revive Golden Oldies rugby in Alberton.

Lood Kleynhans from The Alberton Rugby Club contacted Danie Putter for help and with the help of Peet Bekker, in the February of 2011, the Alberton Madalas Rugby Club was reborn.

“We played a number of games throughout 2012 and used that year to build a good foundation for the team. “In the years that followed, we have gone from strength to strength and we are to date one of the most competitive teams affiliated with the Golden Lions Golden Oldies Rugby Association,” says Buks Koekemoer from the club’s management.

The Madalas have represented the Alberton Rugby Club at the Golden Oldies Festivals in Nelspruit in 2013, Pretoria in 2014, Cape Town in 2015 and Welkom in 2016, with pride.

The club also won the bid to host the 34th National Golden Oldie Rugby Festival in September 2017.

The Alberton Madalas have a total of 50 active players and two teams, an under-40 team and an over-40 team.

The motto of the Golden Oldies is “Fun, Friendship and Fraternity”, and the way they conducted themselves in 2013, 2014 and 2016, won the Madalas the Wally Rudman trophy for the best Golden Oldies team for these years.
