Cricket revived in Eden Park

Join the Cricket Club.

EDEN Park Cricket Club was established in 1992 but dwindled to non-existence in 2005. Now some old members have revived the club and it is making a difference in many young people’s lives.

Elton Ferris, chairman of the club, explains that the founding members, Johannes Steenkamp, Marshall Stevens, Bennie Steenkamp and Allan Scholz, started the club with the aim of getting youngsters off the street. At their first venue, in Kibler Park, a lot of young boys were introduced to the sport and the club was very successful in the Gauteng Cricket League.

Unfortunately, the club became dormant in 2005 but, last year, some former members got things up and running again, under the leadership of Elton.

He urges residents to send their children to join the cricket club.

“We are keeping our children away from drugs by keeping them active,” he said. “Bringing back cricket games is also a goal for management.”
