THE Lions Golden Oldies Rugby Association is in the process of selecting a team to represent the association at the Cape Town 10s Tournament.

The team will play under the name Gauteng Barbarians and take part in the over-35 category on February 2, 3 and 4.

Last year saw the team walk away as the winners of the Plate Final, but they are confident that they can do even better this year, says Jason Waldeck, a member of the team.

Cape Town 10s is South Africa’s biggest social sport and lifestyle event and recently won the title of “Best Live Experience” in South Africa.

Former Springboks Bobby Skinstad and Robbie Fleck started the event with their friend, Ron Rutland, in 2008 and it has become a multi-sport event that now includes netball, beach volleyball and dodgeball.

The tournament is the biggest of its kind in the world and boasts the involvement of many international rugby heroes.

But there is much more than the sports to enjoy – popular music acts provide entertainment and the event is home to the biggest beer tent in the Southern Hemisphere.

Waldeck says businesses can gain exposure by sponsoring the Gauteng Barbarian jerseys.
