Alberton Rugby Club boasts with manager of the year for 2016

The club manager for the Alberton Rugby Club has taken the title of the best club manager for 2016.

Alberton Rugby Club’s Tanya Ulgheri has been awarded the title of the best club manager for 2016, by the Alberton Rugby Club.

As manager of the Alberton Juniors (u.21 and u.19), she also won manager of the year in 2015.

Ulgheri started out at Union Rugby Club in 2012, doing some game stats for the first team and made the move over to Alberton Rugby Club in 2013.

“I was appointed team manager for the u.21’s (and was joint team manager of the year) in 2014, then the u.19’s and ended up with managing Alberton’s first team. I was contacted by the Golden Lions Rugby Union that June – and asked to manage the Golden Lions Senior Women’s team for both 15 and seven-a-side in 2014; and I’m still manager there,” Ulgheri explained.

“I’m manager of Alberton Rugby Club’s first and second team currently. My Golden Lions Women’s team has been growing in strength since 2014,” Ulgheri concluded.

Under Ulgheri’s inspiration, the Lions Sevens women contested regional play-offs in Klerksdorp, where they won the plate final before taking part in the national finals, hosted in Nelspruit over the weekend of October 21 and 22 – and lost in the plate semi-final to the Free State Cheetahs.

Ulgheri also helped the Lions 15-a-side Women’s rugby team to win all their league matches in the past season, until they finally fell short against the Cheetahs in East London in the B-Section final, on Saturday, September 17.

“This has been a very good season for the ladies and we look at building further on the success in 2017,” said Ulgheri.
