THREE of the names released for Team South Africa to the 2016 Olympic games include one from Alberton, Kyle Dodd and two from the South, Daryl Impey and Alyssa Conley (former resident from the South).

South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), announced an additional 113 athletes to the Team South Africa squad that will carry the nation’s flag at the 2016 Olympic Games to be held from August 5 to 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This announcement was made today, Thursday, July 14.

The additional names come after the completion of the final qualifying deadlines in the various sporting codes, bringing the final number of competitors for Rio to 137. The initial 24 names were released on May 25.

Dodd will compete in the BMX category, Impey in the cycling and Conley in the women’s athletic sprinting category.

Over the years Caxton South has widely reported on these athletes and would like to extend congratulations and wish them all the best for the Rio Oympics.

SASCOC president Gideon Sam congratulated the members of the squad. “You have all earned the ultimate honour of representing your country. We have every faith in you excelling at your various events. Attending the Olympics is the pinnacle of a sportsman’s dream. Go and showcase the rainbow nation to the best of your ability,” he said.
