Orlando Pirates sneak into semis

Nedbank Cup semi-finals next weekend.

ORLANDO Pirates sneaked into the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after beating rivals Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 over the weekend.

The team from the South, based at the Rand Stadium, ousted the 2015 cup-holders in extra time at a packed Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, April 23.

Only four teams remain in the competition, which is considered the FA Cup of South Africa. The finals will take place on Saturday, May 28.

In the meantime the semi-finals draw for the teams left took place over the weekend.

The team from the South, Pirates, will face Free State Stars after they beat Bidvest Wits in Bethlehem 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out.

National First Division Baroka FC continued their winning streak and became the first side to go into the semis having never played in the Premier league. They beat provincial rivals Polokwane City 2-0 and will face 2012 champions SuperSport United, who edged Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 on Friday, April 22.

The semi-finals will take place on May 14 and 15. The venues and kick-off times are to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League.
