Alberton Rugby Club shows spirit at sevens tournament

A missed tackle in this game can cost you dearly and it certainly did.

A-SQUARE Forklift Alberton Rugby Club formed part of the Golden Lions Club sevens tournament over the weekend of February 27 and 28.

The annual tournament was hosted this year by the Pirates Rugby Club. It was a very well organised tournament and went off relatively well with only a few hitches. The heat ensured that the beverage suppliers had their work cut out for them to keep up with the demand. The standard of rugby displayed throughout the tournament was superb and the skill levels very high.

Alberton had the honour of playing against the hosts in their opening encounter and they put on an awesome display. They never looked like losing the game and scored at regular intervals. It always looked like they had an extra player on attack but their defence was just as good. When the Pirates players did get the ball and got over the advantage line, the Alberton cover defence always managed to save the day.

It must be said that throughout the match Alberton’s ball handling skills were above par. Unfortunately a missed tackle in this game can cost you dearly and it certainly did.

At the end of the tournament Alberton had won one and lost three matches including an entertaining fixture against the SAPS team. The spirit in the club is very high and this will assist them in being competitive in the longer version of the game too.
