Eye of Africa to host SA PGA Championship

Eye of Africa to host PGA tournament.

THE highly acclaimed Eye of Africa Golf Course, home to the only Greg Norman Championship golf course in the southern hemisphere, will host the South African PGA for the next five years with the 2016 tournament to be played from February 25 to 28.

The PGA Championship is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments and richest sole-sanctioned events on the Sunshine Tour. Since it teed off in 1923, this championship has been won by the greats of Southern African golf, including Bobby Locke, Gary Player, Ernie Els, Nick Price, Mark McNulty, Dale Hayes and David Frost and stands alongside the South African Open and the South African Masters as the ‘majors’ of the local game.

The championship golf course at Eye of Africa, south of Johannesburg, is most certainly a talking point amongst Johannesburg’s golfers. The course, from the first tee to the 18th green, integrates seamlessly with its stunning surrounds. Added to this will be the new practice facility due for completion soon.

Described by Johann Dannhauser, PGA head professional at Eye of Africa Golf Course, as “world class,” this facility aims to sharpen the short game allowing for every possible chip from 0-60 meters. Small target greens, large bunkers and pot bunkers and an additional long range bunker alongside the driving range are the main features of the practice facility.

The championship golf course and practice facility are open from Tuesdays to Sundays.
