Local and international boxers battle it out

The Southern Giant will take place on Friday and Saturday November 6 and 7 at Southern Suburbs Recreation Centre.

THE annual Southern Giant boxing tournament will host a large number of Southern boxers who will show their skills over two days.

The Southern Giant will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, at Southern Suburbs Recreation Centre. The event will be staged by Box Office.

On Friday, a professional Box ‘n Dine tournament will be held with an international flavour. The Saturday will see the amateurs in the ring. Five boxers from Durham County will climb in the ring against the powerful local contingent.

Hunter Fitment Centre saw the value in the event and has come forward as main sponsor. Well known owner, Lionel Hunter, is a former boxer and has given his support for the event which was initiated in 2001.

The Box ‘n Dine will feature Rofhiwa Maema and Bongani Siwisa in a Gauteng title fight. Clement Kamanga, from the Congo, will take on the unbeaten Jeff Saunders, from Durham County. Saunders is a rising star from England and will be displaying his boxing skills against Kamanga who recently turned professional.The spectators can look forward to 14 bouts on the Saturday during the amateur event.

The professional card will feature: Percy Makhize vs Gift Pooe, Jade Karam vs Fiston Kabamba, Osborne Machimana vs Nsinto Mbaya, Bongani Mlotshwa vs Vincent Mlaudzi, Michael Mokoena vs Keith Nkosi, Willers Baloyi vs Jeff Saunders, Sipho Xaba vs Jeffrey Magagane, and Rofhiwa Maemu vs Bongani Siwisa.
