Get dirty for the motocross championships

Spectators can expect incredible racing at Smoking Pistons in Alberton.

THE best motocross riders in South Africa will compete at the 7th and final round of the Monster Energy TRP South African National MX Championship at Smoking Pistons in Alberton on Saturday, October 31.

Michelle Smith, spokesperson for Motocross South Africa, said there will also be a small contingent of riders from countries including Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia.

“Extreme temperatures at the previous round at the Teza Motocross Track just north of Richard’s Bay in the KwaZulu-Natal province did not distract in any way and offered some major thrills and spills,” Smith said.

Many riders will start round seven with only a few points separating those competing for the SA National MX Championship title. “We are guaranteed to see some of the most incredible racing as riders chase the last points and wrap up their championship battles.”

South African motocross legend, Grant Langston, a two time AMA Pro Nationals champion, will make an appearance at the final round.

Smith said Grant will sign autographs and handover the grand prize, a fully funded trip to the United States of America (USA), Europe or United Kingdom for a rider to test for a top motocross team.

Gates will open at 08:00 with racing expected to start at about 10:00.

Refreshments will be sold and an entrance fee of R50 per adult and children above 12 years will be levied. Entry for children younger than 12 is free.
