FOLLOWING the new dispensation in sport in this country, after the first democratic elections back in 1994, the first Alberton Central Sport Council was established at its very first meeting on August 22, 1995, in the Alberton Barry Vorster hall.

The original communication to all sport clubs in Alberton, a piece of sport history, read as follows:

“To ensure constructive liaison between the Alberton Central Sports Council, the Municipal Council and the individual sport codes within the Alberton areas, the attendance of at least one representative per sport code at this meeting is vital.

The support and participation of all sport or recreation codes is imperative if the Alberton Central Sports Council is to succeed with its task of:-

*Streamlining all sporting/recreation codes under the guidance of “one sports council”.

*Become the main, and only, route of negotiation/liaison between the various sport/recreation codes and the Alberton Town Council.

*Creating a non-racial unitary sporting structure.

*Development and promotion of the various sport codes through affiliation.

*Initiating sport development programmes.

*Assisting the community in the development and improvement of sporting/recreation facilities with in the areas”

Now, twenty years later, this consolidated strong sport body is the voice for sport in Alberton, on behalf of affiliated clubs.
