Grace Trinity equestrians excel

Grace Trinity equestrian riders received Sedibeng colours.

THE South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Sedibeng region recently held their annual awards evening where proud riders, who qualified to represent the region and their schools at the Gauteng finals, were rewarded with certificates and pins.

The 52 schools that currently participate in the region are also awarded trophies based on a points system and are placed in divisions according to the number of riders represented. Grace Trinity Primary placed first overall in their division while Grace Trinity High placed second in their division.

“I am so proud of all the Grace Trinity riders and wish to thank the parents and coaches for their dedication, time and hard work put into this exciting sport which has so many disciplines. Unlike other sports there are two athletes to contend with, the horse and rider, and this takes time and sometimes frustration to reach a stage of fitness and competency,” said Roger Redford, head of sport.

ALL SMILES: The Grace Trinity primary school riders who received Sedibeng colours are Leigh-Ann Hayes, Mikaela Martin, Nicole Fick and Gina Bianchi.

“Tyla Nepgen, one of our senior learners competed in nine different core disciplines this year, as well as in the English Mounted Games. Tyla was selected for the A teams in seven of the core disciplines, all with the same horse. She has also qualified to represent Gauteng in the Mounted Games A team. Hot on her heels was Chantelle Bennett who qualified for the A teams in six core disciplines and Twané Burgers who qualified in four A teams and two B teams riding two horses.”

Grace Trinity learners take horse riding lessons at several riding establishments in Alberton and surrounding areas including Jod’s Riding Centre, Alzu Weltmeyer Stables, Penbritte Equestrian Centre, Southern Riding Centre, Jumangi’s Equestrian Centre and the IEC Elite (Apple Orchards).

Gauteng colours were awarded to the top 12 Gauteng riders in each discipline and these riders will compete at Misty Meadows during the October school holidays.
