ALBERTON- Teams have been divided into two separate divisions for different trophies for the remainder of the second round of the Golden Lions Grand Challenge.

The Grand Challenge trophy will be contested by Roodepoort, Pukke, UJ, Wanderers, Raiders and Pirates whilst the Bailey Cup will be contested by A-Square Forklift Alberton, Union, Randfontein, Wits University and Witwatersrand Police, first-round winner of the Senior Grand Challenge competition.

The two competitions kicked off in August with A-Square-Forklift Alberton’s first away-fixture and subsequent 26-24 loss to Witwatersrand Police.

On August 15, A-Square-Forklift Alberton took on Wits University at the Alberton Rugby Club. Despite a tremendous second half performance, Alberton, captained by Ryno Brits on the day, failed to pull out all the stops and suffered a 5-50 defeat. Alberton managed a try soon after the second half kick-off and their good second half defence and attacking play prevented Wits University from adding more points to their high tally.

Traditional arch-enemies and Southern neighbours Union, will visit Alberton Rugby Club on Saturday, August 29, and will be trying to take revenge for their 8-14 derby defeat for the Kevin de Klerk floating trophy earlier this season. Kick-off is at 16:00 with curtain raising games starting at 13:15.
