Admin clerk a soccer star

He might be an admin clerk at a local police station, but he is on fire when on the soccer field.

ALBERTON – While admin and filing might pay his bills at the end of the month, an admin clerk has outdone himself as a goalkeeper at a recent soccer league.

Paul Matjeke, from the Alberton Police Station, recently received a trophy and a medal for being the best goalkeeper during the Top Eight East Rand Police Soccer League, held at the Geluksdal Stadium. Paul played two games where he didn’t let any balls slip past him.

“I am very happy about this award as I did not expect it. I am not a natural goalkeeper and usually excel as a striker,” confesses Paul, who played as goalkeeper for the Brackendowns Police Station.

Altogether, 16 East Rand police stations played in the league. Brackendown’s highlight was when they played against Kathlehong North and Eden Park. They won both games without giving the opponents an opportunity to score any goals.
