Mega performance from development boxers

Development boxing at its best at the Fighting for Angels tournament.

DEVELOPMENT boxers proved that they are far from being on the ropes when they took centre stage at a well organized boxing bill.

The Fighting for Angels boxing tournament took place on Friday, July 24, and was organised by Southern Box Office in conjunction with the Hellenic Community of Germiston.

The seven bill tournament also featured the comeback of heavy weight prospect, Osborn Machimana. He took on Modimba Mugaben in a ten rounder and relying on his flair from the past he proved too much for his Congolese opponent.

Apart for the return of Machimana, who has a record of 28 fights under his belt, the majority of the boxers were debutants with two or three bouts to show for their efforts in the professional ring.

Fighting from the Box Office camp under the watchful eye of former boxer, Anton Gillmore, were Willes Baloyi, Clement Kamanga, Michael Mokoena and Rofhiwa Mueme. All had their ups and downs on the evening but made a welcome start to their careers. Trainer, Allan Toweel’s boxers, Leron Miles and Vusumzi Nyauza, showed the spectators that they are the future of boxing in the country.

Kamanga and Mokoena from the South are prospects for the future who made their intentions in the ring clear by winning their bouts against their respective opponents, Silas Sithole and Lerato Dlamini.

The next Southern Box Office tournament will take place on August 7 at the Turffontein Racecourse.
