Carling Black Label Cup: Local derby time to open new season.

Fans can start voting for their favourite players.

It’s local soccer derby time again when two of the biggest Premier Soccer League clubs will face each other in a somewhat different way.

Absa PSL 2014/2015 league winners, Kaizer Chiefs and near neighbours Orlando Pirates, who are both based in the South, will be in action in their first pre-season match of the new season when they meet for the fifth time in the Carling Black Label Cup.

The match will take place on Saturday, July 25, at the FNB Stadium. The match will start at 15:00.

Once again, it will be marked as a local derby, but with a spice of something exceptional.

Fans and local readers with an interest in soccer, can vote for their specific player from each of these two teams to feature on the day. In the run towards the biggest annual local derby, both teams will receive designated coaches who will not be the current head coaches.

The Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates has, over the years, created long lasting memories to the rich football history in South Africa, ever since the two clubs met for the first time on January 24, 1970.

As a result, the biggest beer brand in the country partnered with two of the most successful football clubs to build onto these memories through making ordinary fans feel like true champions by giving them the power to be the coach.

As the popularity of the Carling Black Label Cup intensified, so too did the records break as 2012 became the first time the FNB stadium recorded its highest number of spectators for any event through the Carling Black Label Cup.

In 2014, the bar was set higher with over 92 000 spectators attending the match. The 2014 edition saw a tense affair between the two giants which resulted in the Buccaneers claiming the title through penalty shots, ultimately winning 6-5.
