Premier cricket shines

Alberton Cricket Club Premier League side delivered the goods during the 2014-2015 season, as reflected by high standings on league logs.

ALBERTON – In the Premier League “A” limited-overs competition over 50 overs, Alberton finished fifth overall on 35 league log points, two behind Old Eds. The top six out of the 12 in Premier League “A”, were: UJ 61, Caxton Khosa 51, Jeppe 49, Old Eds 37, Alberton 35 and Wanderers 28.

In the Premier League “A” Time Competition, now in progress, Alberton is in third place on 82 on the log, three log points behind UJ. Wanderers top the log at 95. Behind Alberton still in striking distance are Old Eds 77, Marks Park 74, Pirates 70 and Delfos 60.

As far as the Premier League individual statistics are concerned, an even brighter picture emerges: Among the batsmen, Ashley Martin tops the Alberton averages with 277 runs in five innings and an average of 55, four runs per innings. It includes 27 fours and five sixes. His highest score for the season a whopping 116 runs. Juanre Potgieter amassed 237 runs from six innings for an average of 39.5 per innings, including 16 fours and four big sixes with his highest score of 74 runs.

On the bowling front, Fryer Cameron’s figures read 19 overs 10 maidens and seven wickets for 37 runs at an average of 5.29 runs per wicket and 1.95 runs per over.

Other good Alberton bowling figures on the Gauteng bowling statistics are: Captain Ziyaad Desai 77 (overs) -11 (maidens)- 233 (runs) – nine wickets. Average runs per over 3.03; Lazarus Mokoena 52 overs – 12 maidens’ – 101 runs – 12 wickets. His average per wicket 8.42 and Tyron White 42 overs – eight maidens – 78 runs – 8 wickets. Tyron took another five wickets against Marks Park.

In last week’s cricket round-up, Alberton premier League side (186/5) drew to Marks Park (244/9, with Donovan Auckamp on 64 runs as top scorer. Presidents League side (233) destroyed UJ (74), where Eben Koekemoer was the best all-rounder 55 and 5/11.
