5km fun run for Hospice

Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club in Johannesburg South is celebrating its 111th anniversary in 2015, hosting the Jackie Gibson Marathon and the Alan Ferguson Half-Marathon on Sunday, March 22.

ALBERTON – A 5km Fun Run is also on the cards, entry fee at R30 per fun-runner. The proceeds will be donated to Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park.

Pre-entries are accepted at most races in Gauteng, as well as at The Sweat Shop, Sportsmans Warehouse and Runners Group outlets until March 15.

Entries are also accepted at the starting venue on the afternoon before the race. Late entries will be accepted at the start from 05:00.

The fun run is set to start at 6:45 from the Klipriversberg Recreation Centre, Peggy Vera Street in Kibler Park. Medals will be awarded to all runners.

The Jackie Gibson Memorial Marathon was inaugurated in 1946. Jackie Gibson represented South Africa in the 1936 Berlin Games and finished seventh. In the following year he set an Empire record, when he won the South African Championships in Krugersdorp.
