Super schools sport time

Super school sport season starts on the first Saturday of March, with the various sport and rugby competitions.

The PUK Super 16 programme kicked off at Alberton High, where they hosted Hoërskool Overvaal, the same day when Hoërskool Alberton played hosts for Hoërskool Standerton.

Alberton High rugby, current holders of the Beeld-trophy middle schools, managed to repeat their victory of last year by one point of Overvaal this time with a 8-5 result. The visitors led 5-0 at halftime, but the home side hit back by the equaliser in the second half, when Tristan Delport scored a captain’s try.

It was again captain Tristan who was successful on the scoreboard, when his penalty goal towards the end pulled Alberton High through. Alberton High u.15 won 12-5, but both Overvaal u.16 won 33-0 and u.14 by 25-5.

Hoërskool Alberton started with a 19-15 victory over Standerton, while Dinamika beat Bergsig Rustenburg by 15-10 in their Super series game.

In other sport on Super 16 opening day, Alberton High first hockey team lost to Overvaal 0-3 after trailing 0-2 at halftime, and Alberton High first netball team went down 20-26 to Overvaal in a humdinger of a game, where the scoreboard read 14-18 at the start of the last quarter.
