Skills training creates full rounded rugby players

Always pushing the limits with Alberton's best interest at heart is something A-Square-Forklift Alberton Rugby Club has done with pride over the years.

ALBERTON – Not only is this the only local rugby club with three international trainers, but also the first local club to announce that they are ready to create fully rounded players.

On Friday February 20 the club announced its newly formed partnership with Ekurhuleni Artisans and Skills Training Centre (EASTC). The aim of this partnership is to equip players with a skill they can fall back on once their rugby playing years are over.

Present at the launch was the Department of Higher Education’s Mr Craig Pereira (deputy director Indlela, Artisans RPL Indlela), who confirmed that this is the decade for artisans, and that the training of artisans is a top priority for the department.

Timmy Goodwin, representing the Golden Lions, underlined the importance of skilled and trained rugby players to ensure a future once their rugby careers come to an end. He also stressed that this will open avenues for new players, who otherwise did not have the funding to further their studies and live their dreams as rugby players.

Businesses are invited to invest in this programme and can contact Manie Reyneke on 082 891 5484 for more information. ss

More information about the training centre is available on www.eastc.co.za or contact 011 907 3082/3/4/5 or 011 394 1488 for more information.
