Tai Chi Chuan Alberton honours ambassadors

Tai Chi is known as an ancient martial art and has grown from strength to strength in Alberton. In promoting the Alberton school, the Institute of Tai Chi Chuan Alberton, both Maryke Kitching and Jed van der Helde played different, but important roles.

ALBERTON – Maryke, along with her instructor Craig Boden, was invited to an interview on Talk 702 Radio with Aubrey Masango on Friday Night as to what Tai Chi is all about. Tai Chi was discussed as a martial art, and as for what it is more commonly known in the West as, a healing art and alternative form of exercise. A lot of people are unaware that Tai Chi Chuan is a martial art.

Jed Van Der Helde was invited to an interview with producer Melvin Biza of SABC1, YOTV and asked why he likes Tai Chi and the difference of Tai Chi to other martial arts. He was also asked to demonstrate some of the applications he had learnt.

Both students have been instrumental in the Alberton Institute’s Tai Chi awareness programmes, in and what Tai Chi is all about. Both students are good ambassadors for The Tai Chi Institute of Alberton, which has been training for 13 years.

Maryke also achieved her next level to advanced level 1, and is now training to become an instructor. She will be representing the Alberton Institute at The World Tai Chi Championships, held by the World Tai Chi Federation in Taiwan in 2016

Jed moved from introductory level to beginner’s level, and their instructor, Craig, hopes that one day he too will become an instructor.

About Tai Chi Chuan:

Tai Chi Chuan is known as an internal martial art, because of its training methods. Everyone can benefit, both young and old. Tai Chi can be used in rehabilitation of certain disabilities, caused by strokes, heart attacks, accidents and many more. It can be trained as a martial art, or an alternative form of exercise.

It is known for its slow, relaxed movements that serve as a moving meditation to strengthen the core and muscles. Every move in a form has not only one, but a few applications that can be applied in real life situations for self defence. Each movement focuses on certain organs in your body to improve its functionality and health.
