Yet another probable runner withdrawn from Summer Cup

Three key withdrawals affecting what was intended to be the final log of probable runners.

Three key withdrawals affecting what was intended to be the final log of probable runners for November 29 Sansui Summer Cup proudly hosted by Gauteng has led Phumelela to release a third list.

Anjaal, Forest Indigo and Ash Cloud were all included on Log 2, but were withdrawn by trainers Mike de Kock, Alec Laird and Weiho Marwing respectively, shortly after the list was produced. So the National Horseracing Authority handicappers, with input from racing operator Phumelela, has compiled yet another log.

Since that log was produced, Sean Tarry has withdrawn Halve The Deficit – the panel’s tenth choice on the list of potential runners, which brings the total withdrawn to 14 of the 56 entries.

The first 20 on the log are in order of preference, the next ten are the preferred choices of the handicappers listed in alphabetical order and the remainder are listed in order of merit rating.

Any races run prior to declarations on Tuesday November 18 will be taken into account when the final Summer Cup field is announced. Among those races is the Grade 2 Victory Moon Stakes over 1 800m, which will be run this Saturday at Turffontein Racecourse.

Entries will be taken until Monday November 17 and late nominations could potentially be selected ahead of those currently in the top 20 on the log.

A horse entered before November 3 publication of weights can only have its weight for the Summer Cup adjusted if it wins a race. A horse supplemented after the publication of the weights will be weighted according to its merit rating at the time.

The final Summer Cup field, to be decided by the handicappers with input from Phumelela, will be announced on Wednesday November 19.
