Fight with Insight shows the way

Fight with Insight programme is growing with many other projects conducted by Anton Gilmore.

FIGHT with Insight project for children of crime was started in 2006 by the well known former boxer, Anton Gilmore, and renowned child protection guru Luke Lamprecht.

They recently expanded the project and eventually it became an autonomous project with its own gym at the CMI building in Parktown. The project is supported by the Laureus Foundation, which supports sports for good projects around the world, numbering over 150 such projects. One of the projects in Brazil called Fight for Peace are partnered with Fight with Insight in an Alumni splinter, where ideas are shared worldwide on child welfare.

The project Anton is a part of has built a gym exclusively for children of the inner city, who are part of upliftment projects for local inhabitants.

Carte Blanche were at the launch of the project in 2006, and since the project has developed a 98 per cent success rate and with research suggesting that one offender can offend 364 people in a lifetime and 130 children have been repaired and monitored since inception. That translates into 40 000-plus cases being thwarted by simple principles boxing gets across, ie discipline, consequence, honour, dignity and responsibility.

Southern Suburbs Boxing Club is having an eight-fight event at the CMI building in Parktown from 10:00, where there will be an interactive boxing display and people will be ushered through the vast building to see how this and many other projects work.

At noon the fights start, which will included the Box Office Mentorship Boys, who were selected to show Fight with Insight boys the correct life avenues to follow.

Entrance to the event is free, but since it’s winter and a child project, we encourage you to bring a toy or old clothing and blankets.

16 June is Youth Day and this is the prime example of what should be happening in terms of child welfare.

Local Southern Suburbs clubs competed as well.

Arthur Hall, Tino Parestrelo, Siya Mabena, Warren Le Roux, Luco Mbece, Joel dos Santos and two other bouts will be on. Come support the next generation of mentors and fighters. Entrance is free.
