SA Marathon Champ takes gold at SA Pork Kwai Challenge

SA Pork Kwai Challenge took place over the weekend.

SOUTH African Marathon Champion Cornelia Joubert (Nedbank Running Club) defended her title to take gold in the Women’s 21,1km at the SA Pork Kwai Challenge.

The SA Pork Kwai Challenge took place on Sunday May 11.

Joubert (25) shaved a second off her 2013 winning time, finishing in 1:19:31. “It was a great race and it helped being familiar with the route” she said. She was followed minutes later by Ethiopian athletes Alem Tsehay Kakisa and Adanach Temilu, both from Nedbank.

Frik Guys (Nedbank) won gold in the Men’s 21,1km with a time of 1:07:28, followed closely by Raphael Segodi and Don Ndlovu, who claimed silver medals.

The men’s 10km was won by Two Oceans Half Marathon silver medalist Joel Maone (Nedbank) in a time of 30:30. Lucky Mohale (Maxed Elite) and David Manja (Nedbank) took silver. The Women’s category was won by Bidvest’s Tebogo Masehla with a time of 38:04, followed by Nedbank’s Catherine Skhosana and Elim Clinic’s Kegomoditswe Lechaba.

One of the highlights of the day was 9-year-old Simone Burger, who was the first female home in the 5km race. Joseph Guyani was the men’s 5km winner. The successful event was organised by Randburg Harriers and had 6 000 entries for the various races.
