Alberton star shines at Ekurhuleni Sport Awards

She was the only Albertonian to walk away with one of the ten Ekurhuleni sport awards.

ALBERTON – Protea hockey player Bernadette Coston from Alberton, who has 68 caps for South Africa, was named Ekurhuleni Sportswoman of the year for the second consecutive year.

Bernadette, who respresented the country at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, won a gold medal at the Africa Cup-tournament last year, when her SA Proteas team beat Ghana 3-2 in the final.

Bernie will represent SA at the Champions Challenge tournament in Glasgow Scotland from April 27 to May 2.

Other Ekurhuleni award-winners included Ryan Phillips for kickboxing as senior sportsman of the year, and junior golfer Kylie McClatchie as junior sportsman of the year. Barefoot water skier Shianne Addinall is the junior sportswoman of the year and wrestling coach Nico Coetzee from Boksburg is the coach of the year.
