It’s hop’ning this Easter at the Races

The R2-million SA Derby will take place at Turffontein.

EASTER wouldn’t be Easter without a visit from the famous bunny himself! Make sure you get down to Turffontein Racecourse this Saturday April 26 for a day of fun for young and old.

Louis The King has been entered into the R2-million President’s Champions Challenge and will have a challenge of a full field to contest the SA Derby.

The R2-million SA Derby, the third leg of the SASCOC Triple Crown, will take place at Turffontein on Saturday April 26.

All together runners have been nominated for the Grade 1 race over the 2 450m. The SA Derby is one of four Grade 1 races to be run on Champions Day. The others are the R2-million President’s Champions Challenge, the Computaform Sprint, the Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks and the SA Nursery.

Louis The King is heading for his third win after winning the first two legs, the Betting World Gauteng Guineas and the SA Classic, and will become only the second horse in South African history to achieve it. The other was Horse Chestnut in 1999.

The draw took place on Thursday April 27 at Tuffontein where one community, horse and media partner were linked as well as their charities. The horse will run for the charity, and regarding the order of finish, the charity will benefit from it.

Experience first-class South African racing with panoramic views of Johannesburg from one of the City Decks, or take in the thrill of the atmosphere from the ground floor as the horses thunder past.

The Easter Bunny will be handing out chocolate eggs to the visiting children, who can take advantage of the kid’s play area. There is no entry fee and secure parking is available.
