Alberton hockey leagues start

Southern Gauteng Hockey Leagues for the new season have been confirmed and the winter league commenced during the first weekend of April.

ALBERTON – The good news for 2014 is that the Alberton women’s B side has been promoted up to the SGHA women’s fourth league. This means that all the scheduled games for the season will be played on Astro and means the league becomes much more exciting and very competitive.

The women’s A side remains in the top first league. The women are aiming to finish top of the log this year, as they came very close to it last year. The success of this team can be attributed to the majority of them being selected for the Eastern Gauteng Country district side for 2013.

The men’s first team has been promoted into the fifth league and will now compete against other local clubs like St Martians and Cambrians.

The ages of players range from 17 to 50 and above and the club is looking for players to join Alberton Hockey Club. Contact the club at albertonhockeyclub@gmail.com and via their Facebook page.

Training venues are as follows: Tuesday nights at Alberton Cricket and Hockey Club from 18:30 and on Thursday nights at Jeppe Boys High Astro from 19:30 to 21:00.
