Another first round victory for Dowayne

Alberton's Gauteng middleweight boxing champion Dowayne Combrink has done it again.

ALBERTON – Dowayne met Daddy Mpiga in a middleweight clash at the “Boxing Explosion” tournament at Carnival City and proved to be far too strong for his opponent.

Dowayne forced a stoppage one minute eighteen seconds in the first round against a boxer who was definitely not in his stronger class.

In other bouts Ekurhuleni boxer Deon Coetzee, family member of the country’s first heavyweight world champion Gerrie Coetzee, romped home victorious on a majority decision against Jean Lutete in a cruiserweight encounter.

Jared Silverman from the South struck gold at Carnival City, with a career best performance. Silverman won on a split decision in an entertaining encounter. In the headline bout, another local favourite Warren Joubert made a great comeback after a year’s absence, winning unanimously on points against Masterd Mongalaladza in their junior welterweight bout over eight rounds.
