Scotty a rugby referee legend

It has been 45 years and still Scotty is not ready to hang up his whistle...

ALBERTON – When Scotty McNaughton handled his first rugby match as a referee back in 1968, he did not ever imagine that he would still be there with referee whistle in his hand 45 years later.

This is exactly what is still happening and Scotty spoke to the RECORD when he was the referee at the Golden Oldies rugby festival match between Hillbillies from Rosettenville and Harlequins of Pretoria.

He looked back on an illustrious career as referee, where he blew the whistle in senior league club rugby and also served as Chairman of the Golden Oldies Referees Association and Deputy President of Golden Oldies Rugby Association.

Retirement as a referee is for Scotty not an option and it is a certainty that he will still be there as no.31 on the rugby field as long as he is alive and well. If there ever was a referee legend, then it must be Alberton’s own Scotty McNaughton.
