Grid and solar changeover a cause for concern

A Brackendowns household is fully operational again after having no power supply for a week.

We got a call earlier this month from the electricity department, offering to load our units remotely so we can get back online and send someone to investigate why our home display fails to connect to the controller on the pavement.

The man arrived sometime later, asked us to turn off the inverter, and within 15 seconds, had the two units communicating again.

Like most new units, our inverter switches between the grid and solar automatically as necessary, so no switch can be in the wrong position.

It has to do with a protection feature of their prepaid system that disconnects the units if all the electricity units are used up and no load is connected.

This may be useful information for other residents who experience the same problem.

City’s feedback

According to Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the customer could not load units because they had put their changeover switch to the inverter instead of the grid.
