Why does community have to pick up slack? – Concerned Alberton resident

I commend you for your effort and initiative.

Reading the stories of the community coming together to clean the Alberton Dam and Post Office on the RECORD’s website has left me with mixed feelings.

On the one hand I am extremely proud of our community for coming together and doing their best to clean up Alberton.

It is thanks to people like you that we can still be proud of parts of our city.

I commend you for your effort and initiative.

On the other hand, it is absolutely shocking to me that this is even necessary.

How can it be that it falls on the community to make sure that property of the municipality remains clean?

Surely it falls on our government to ensure that our public spaces remain clean?

Why has it gotten to the point that we as community feels it is necessary to go and clean it ourselves?

It is clear to me that someone has been dropping the ball.
