Highest accolades to the Bracken High boys

It warms my heart to know we have young men saying ‘enough is enough’.

I should have sent this letter about two weeks ago commending the boys of Bracken High on their pledge to protect women and children.

But maybe it was a good thing that I did not? Especially after reading this week’s RECORD referring to the case where a man is accused of strangling his wife.

An incident which once again highlights violence against women and children.

So to the boys of Bracken High I want to say I applaud you. You deserve the highest accolades for the pledge you took to protect our women and children.

It takes a real man to realise when they do wrong. It takes a real man to realise the threats violence holds for our community. It takes a real man to acknowledge when he is in the wrong.

And you all stood up to acknowledge the wrongdoings of other men and you all pledge to correct those wrongs.

You know there is a problem and you are not going with the flow, but against it.

You are taking a stand against violence against women and children – you are being real men.

As a mother and wife I cannot begin to tell you how proud this makes me.

It warms my heart to know that within our community, we have young men out there who are also saying ‘enough is enough’. All I ask of you is to remember your pledge, engrave it into your hearts – go out into the world as real men and may you all be blessed.
