Brackenhurst store loses a customer because of bad service

Two very healthy looking ladies, a packer and a teller, stood watching an 81-year-old widow really struggling to pick up her groceries.

We have been customers of Checkers in Brackenhurst (Checkers in Brackenhurst Square) even before the present one was built. You may recall Checkers and SPUR and others were either revamped or rebuilt.

This was approximately 20 years ago. Despite the Mall of the South being convenient and larger, I still continue to shop in Brackenhurst.

The floor staff are very friendly and helpful and often assist this 81-year-old widow in taking heavy items off the shelves.

Things changed.

I bought a six-pack of one-litre milk, long life. It is heavy. I managed to roll the pack into the trolley.

Come to the tellers it’s a different story. They were sullen, rude and unhelpful. There was no way that could be able to lift the milk from the trolley onto the counter. I asked the teller to help me.

The reply, “I need that”. I explained that it was too heavy. Same reply.

I really wanted to make a scene but managed to drag the box to the edge of the trolley and heave it onto the counter.

“Claire”.

Shoprite Checkers reply

The RECORD contacted the Shoprite media team to ask their comment on the incident. “Customer service enjoys high priority in the Checkers chain and the experience described by the customer is certainly not living up to our expectations,” said the media team in an email to the RECORD.

They also requested the details of the incident to address the matter formally which the RECORD provided. They requested the details of the sender of the letter to offer their apologies but due to the anonymity of the writer, this was not possible.
