Dysfunctional Post Office causes frustration

Alberton citizen speaks out about poor service at licensing centre.

Why is the dysfunctional Post Office allowed to continue operating?

I visited the Meyersdal branch last week only to be told they were off-line. Today (January 22) it was time to renew my vehicle licence, a transaction that normally takes about five minutes.

But, after leaving home at about 9am and visiting three post offices and all of them not being able to help (off-line, no toner etc.), I decided the licence office would be the next best bet.

At inquiries, along with about 10 others, I waited about 10 minutes for the assistant to return to the office and provide a form. He only returned because the mob was becoming restive. He told us to fill the form in and take it across the road to a container and have a copy of the form and my ID made. There were no pens at the counters but you could buy one at the same container.

Why is information already provided on MLV 1 form required to be transposed/copied on to another form and then copied again?

I returned to the licence office and joined a queue of about 20 people at 10am. Only one teller point was open. My moment arrived at 11.55am. Behind me, another 20 people waited, poor souls. I arrived home at 12.20pm.

One can only describe this level of non-service as disgusting. Three and a half hours to complete a five-minute transaction.

Have the state and its leaders, managers and employees no shame for making people suffer the indignity of unnecessary bureaucracy?

Worse still, why are people being paid not to work?
