Why do people still shoot fireworks?

“Your inconsideration and disrespect towards animals are abhorrent to the rest of us.”

I would like to express my utmost frustration towards people who still buy and shoot fireworks in this day and age, despite most people already being aware of how traumatising it is to animals.

I myself am a pet owner who loves animals dearly, and every year when it’s festive season, I have to go and buy calming medication to give to my pets – not only for my dogs but for my cats, too. If they don’t take these meds, they nearly lose their minds!

I won’t be told that people aren’t aware of the negative effects that fireworks have on animals – every year there are so many news articles warning people about this on so many different media platforms.

Also, to launch these fireworks, people must have permits and get permission from the appropriate authorities – I’m sure most people don’t adhere to these rules, which means that not only do they traumatise animals, they commit a crime.

Why the fireworks? Is it not enough to drink champagne on New Year’s Eve and spend quality time with family and friends? I just don’t understand why fireworks are necessary now, or why people ever thought it necessary.

If you can’t resist doing something loud on New Year’s Eve, why not just play your favourite song really loud, or buy some extra Christmas crackers to open on New Year’s? It’s safe, made of cardboard and usually even contains a little dry joke for your amusement.

To those obsessed with launching fireworks every year – your inconsideration and disrespect towards animals are abhorrent to the rest of us.
