My name is Lucia Veltkamp and I am a 70-year-old pensioner on the brink of losing my house at Eekhoring Street, Brackenhurst.
I’ve been in tears after losing R20 000 cash on my way inside the Brackenhurst FNB on December 18. I was finally able to pay off a bond on my house that had been in arrears for quite some time. I had been warned about losing my house if I did not pay it, not long before.
My ex-husband, with whom I still maintain a friendship, sold his dear bakkie for R20 000 to help me with money after I called him, in tears, for urgent help. He himself is struggling and this was a big sacrifice he made to help me.
So, after he gave me the R20 000 in cash, I took it with me to the bank. To my extreme negligence, the money must have fallen out of the car as I climbed out to go inside the bank. Before I realised the money was not with me, someone had already seen it and taken it.
Antoinette van Dyk who works at this FNB can confirm this, as she sat with me for a long time, going through CCTV footage to see what happened to the cash that fell out. She did what she could to help and console me. I could not stop crying.
To whoever picked up the cash, I am desperately pleading with you to please deposit whatever money is left of it into my bond account – I do not want the money for myself, I just need to pay off that bond before I get kicked out into the street. I pray and cry for this help.
