Road rage witness sought

"He then beat me with the bat three times and it hurt like hell (I had to get urgent medical assistance)."

On June 1 at around 8am, I was involved in a horrifying, violent road rage incident.

My business partner and I were driving through Mayberry Park on our way to Swartkoppies Road, when a motorist in a white Opel bakkie made a very dangerous driving decision that put us and motorists in the oncoming lane in danger. He almost caused our deaths.

When we passed him, I put my finger to my temple to gesture to him that he must think before putting others’ lives at risk like that. I thought he was driving like an idiot. He saw this and I could see it made him very furious.

He followed us to the traffic lights in front of the BP Garage on the corner of Swartkoppies and Potgieter roads. There were a lot of cars around us and the light was red, so we had to stop. We were trapped with cars in front of us.

The angry motorist got out of his car, took a wooden bat out of his bakkie and started smashing the windows of the car we were in. We were in a Hyundai Getz. There was hatred in this man’s eyes.

I got out and tried to stop him from further wrecking my business partner’s car. He then beat me with the bat three times and it hurt like hell; I had to get urgent medical assistance. He didn’t stop. My business partner reversed into his car behind us and, luckily because he did not pull up his handbrake, his bakkie rolled backwards and he left us to chase it.

I’m calling out to anyone who saw this incident happen, to please come forward and help us find this person. I think he was in his fifties. He has a stocky build.

If someone happened to see his registration number or any other important information that might help us find him, please call me on 078 476 8436.
