Sewage problems in Kalossie Street continue

It's sad that one has to go these lengths because the municipality isn't interested in doing their jobs.

I would like to bring your attention to a problem we have been experiencing for quite some time and the municipality doesn’t seem to care.

We have lived in our house here in Kalossie Street, Brackenhurst, for 17 years now and have been having problems with sewage for around five years.

Our next door neighbour used to end up with the street’s sewage in his yard and Rosemarie’s Nursery School also had a problem and it all landed up on our property.

Municipal sewage pipes would get blocked and the street’s sewage would land up on our property.

They would eventually come out and unblock it, but soon after, the problem would just rear its ugly head again.

Now we have done what a neighbour has done. We connected pipes that will let sewage flow onto the street instead of letting it pile up in our yard and house.

It’s sad that one has to go these lengths because the municipality isn’t interested in doing their jobs.

When I went to the municipal office on Swartkoppies and showed the manager photos of the sewage, I got told that he cannot send his team to sort out the problem as they will get sick, yet we had to live in it.

This is very disturbing to me but just goes to show the type of service we have to put up with. It is completely disgusting and simply unacceptable.
