Broken streetlight has Brackendowns resident frustrated

"I’m hoping this article will get them to do something – I am at my wit’s end.”

My wife and I moved to Brackendowns earlier this year and at the beginning of our residence, we struggled with the municipality to fix the six or seven streetlights in Andries Street which was not working at all.

A few months after they eventually came to fix it (after a lot of phone calls and threats to go to the newspaper), there was some bad weather that broke one of these streetlights in half.

Now I had to go through the same struggle again to get the EMM to come and fix it. Eventually, they replaced the base of the streetlight but not the top curved section where the light sits. They said they would come back the next day to replace that part and the light. Well, I’m still waiting for them to show up.

I work night shifts, and by the time I’m almost home, I can barely see where my house is – I’ve driven past it several times already. And who knows – criminals can use this darkness to their advantage to rob people, break into the houses, or Heaven knows what else. My wife is often alone at home at night and she’s afraid someone breaks in and attacks her. It’s so dangerous.

I’m hoping this article will get them to do something – I am at my wit’s end.

Frustrated resident.

The RECORD contacted the EMM to urge them to address the problem but they did not respond in time for publishing.
