Alberton SPCA thankful for help

The staff and committee would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

RECENTLY Alberton SPCA appealed for new computers for their offices and Nelis Fourie from Imperial Cargo Solutions got in touch with them. Now they are the proud owners of three new computers.

“This is such a boost as it means we can work more efficiently. A huge thank you Imperial Cargo Solutions for this wonderful donation,” said Vanja Ingold, SPCA member. The SPCA receives no government funding and therefore is entirely reliant on the local community to support their mission of caring for the animals at their branch.

Their yearly AGM was held last month and they had a very busy year so far. “Sadly donations were down once again due to the economic climate which means our committee will have to work even harder to raise funds. We do not have a vet at Alberton SPCA to treat the public’s animals. We have to pay a vet to come in to sterilise and treat our sick animals. Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and not to provide veterinary services for the general public,” Vanja explained.

“During the past financial year, our inspectors dealt with over 300 cruelty complaints. They continue to work hard at checking grooming parlours, security companies, pet shops and petting farms on a regular basis and always check the circus animals when they come to town. In addition, pre and post home inspections are done for people who adopt from us,” Vanja said.

As always they had plenty of dogs and cats come in as strays, a number of which were claimed by their owners. “This always brings a smile to our staff. We also had a stray cow but thankfully its owner came forward,” Vanja added.

The staff and committee would like to thank everyone for their continued support.
