Squatter problem is out of control

"Our 'neighbours' who pay no rent, taxes, or anything, are making our lives a misery."

I am at my wits’ end with regards to a squatter camp right on our doorstep and nothing is being done about it.

We live in Meyersdal, Extension 12, off Phillip Engelbrecht Street and our ‘neighbours’ who pay no rent, taxes, or anything, are making our lives a misery.

The squatters have been here for years and, in spite of the police burning the illegal structures last year, they were back the very next day and since then things have just been escalating and getting worse.

There is now a dumping yard, as one of the stands near the road was closed off where they used to dump garbage and all the guys staying there are now living next to us in the field as well!

RATE-PAYER FEDUP: The noise, smell, flies and litter from this area have become a huge issue for a local resident.

There are tents, women and children shouting the whole day and babies crying during the night, making all the dogs in the area bark and keeping us awake.

They have no toilets and steal water from surrounding properties; they do their business right there, so the smell is unbearable; we have a massive fly problem; they brew alcohol there; the litter and rubbish is everywhere, etc.

It seems nothing is being done about this situation after the election.

Can someone please come up with a solution for this, as it is getting ridiculous now.
