Metro gremlin is laughing

"There is obviously a problem with the database at the EMM as the address at the top of the valuation should match the property being evaluated.”

THE RECORD is still receiving complaints about problems with the notifications for the property valuation roll delivered to residents.

After this costly effort from EMM to notify residents, it would seem that not a single resident received the correct valuation notification.

EMM has admitted to the mistake and is undertaking to rectify it. Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson, said: “The City is preparing new letters with the correct property description and values and these will all be mailed before the end of March 2017.”

One of the many phone calls received from residents was followed by a letter stating: “As discussed by phone this morning, we have just received a letter from Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding the valuation roll. The delivery address at the top of the letter is correct for our property in Brackenhurst. However, the property listed as being evaluated is not correct as it is a property in Palamino Street, Meyersdal. “I attempted to contact the telephone numbers shown on the back of the valuation for the Customer Care Centre; both numbers dialled gave me a message ‘the number you have dialled does not exist’. These numbers are 011 999 2365 and 011 999 0150. There is obviously a problem with the database at the EMM as the address at the top of the valuation should match the property being evaluated.”

Additionally, on the morning of March 13, another resident reported on the issue: “We have received various rates evaluations from Ekurhuleni and have noticed all the information is incorrect. The only correct information on the evaluations is the post box address. I really think that someone has no clue what they’re doing on the new evaluations. I also recall the last time around with evaluations, we objected to the values and the first round nothing was updated.”

Valuation roll open for inspection

The certified valuation roll is open for inspection at Customer Care Centers, as the certified roll remains intact despite the printing error on notices to inspect it. The closing date for objections will be on Friday, May 5 at 15:30. The City will also place the certified valuation roll on its website from Thursday, March 16.
